Sophia first joined MCCT in our 2023 Shakespeare in the Park production of “Richard III.” Since then, she has continued to do amazing work with local theater organizations and she’s back with MCCT for this production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. We asked Sophia to share a little bit with us about why she loves theater, why she chose to get involved in this show, and why you should come see us beginning THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22 at 7:30pm.

Without further ado, meet Sophia!

Name: Sophia Hoffman

Role: Nina

Previous involvement in MCCT/Other Theater: This is my second show with MCCT, the previous one being last year’s Richard III for Shakespeare in the Park! I’ve been acting since I was about eight and studied theatre in college.

What made you want to be a part of this show? This show is hilarious and heartfelt. I was so excited to hear MCCT was bringing it to life.

What is the most unexpected part of community theater to you? Everyone is so passionate about performing/creating theatre together.

What would you like the audience to know about your character/what it takes to make a show work (for tech folx)? Nina is an absolute blast to play- she is a very smiley character, so my face muscles are getting a workout every time she’s onstage!

What excites you about this show? Getting to work with such a talented and genuine cast.

What should audiences expect at the show? Rapid-fire jokes, constant Chekhov references, and a tiiiiiiiny bit of voodoo.

Are you like/unlike your character? In what way? I admire how Nina stays positive and sees the good in everyone. I definitely try to emulate that in my everyday life, though I don’t think I’m as ditzy as her.

What is your favorite thing about performing? Working with other creatives to put together a performance for the community is its own reward. Hearing the audience’s reaction to your jokes is also pretty fun!
