Director's Note

Pericles, Prince of Tyre is one of Shakespeare’s four last plays, along with The Tempest, A Winter’s Tale, and Cymbeline--all romantic comedies. The Bard took his plot from an adventure story written by the Englishman John Gower in the 14th century. He even made Gower one of the actors in the play.

The play takes place in Byzantine times in six cities around the eastern end of the Mediterranean. To help you keep track of this, I have given each place a color.

It has been most rewarding to bring this rarely seen play to life. A particular word of commendation is due those faithful members of the cast and the many others who have aided in making this production happen.

On September 12, Monroe County Civic Theater observed its 20th birthday. Now in this, our 95th production, we are still going strong to bring you many more plays for your enjoyment.
