Directing "Sure Thing" has been, well, a lot of laughs as one might assume from the script!
One of my biggest challenges was learning how to direct a play with nearly non-existent blocking
and an excellent but fairly self-explanatory script. At times it felt like there was not much I
was needed for, but I gradually learned that there was more than surface work to be done as a
director. Blessed with wonderful actors, I believe we have come together quite well despite the
month of rehearsing we had to work with. I wish to thank Nikolous and Kaitlin for their tremendous
job, Claudio for introducing me to the writing of David Ives, and Jessica for her valuable friendship.

The humor in this play is very dry. If no one laughs in the first ten minutes, someone please
fake a seizure to stop the performance.

I could say that I chose to direct this play as an opportunity to expand my theatrical horizons
and better understand my craft. I could say that I'm doing it as a tribute to the comedic genius of
David Ives. I could go on and on about the great ideals that inspired me to pursue this project.
But, well, I would be lying. The only reason I'm doing this is to put on a play about monkeys.
And what monkeys they are! I would like to warmly thank Shellie, Nick, and Kyle for rolling about
on the floor for me these last four weeks. You guys are the grooviest primates ever, and you will
always have a special place in my heart. "The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely, the
acorns of despair, the horse's discontent ..."
