Most of my plays come out of life changing experiences, as an attempt to
make sense of different ways of looking at situations. When I was on
the verge of graduating college, I wrote a play about the end of the
world. When I was unsure about my path in life, I wrote a play about
somebody who finds lost things. Social Circles was written in response
to a break-up and is, therefore, a meditation on love in its many forms.
The staging was a dificult thing, what with 30+ characters.
Assembling a cast for a production that big is nigh impossible. But
using a minimalist format, with actors playing multiple characters and
switching costume pieces hopefully did the trick. Just remember, any
time a character leaves stage, they come on as a different character.
