I don't remember the exact moment that I thought of combining the Marx Brothers
with Shakespeare, but now that I've done it, I can't believe more people don't do
it. In looking at Twelfth Night, there are really two different comedies going on,
the 'upstairs' comedy of the love triangle of Olivia, Viola and Orsino, and the
'downstairs' comedy of Toby, Andrew, Maria and Fabian tricking Malvolio. Crossing
between the two is Feste the clown who, like a pre-modern Groucho, makes fun of
everybody. Two great tastes that taste great together.
