Annual Membership Meeting 2007
Opening
Board of Directors President Frank Buczolich presented an overview of our group: who we are, what we do, where we perform, the fact that we are committed to giving everyone a chance regardless of their resume or background.
Election of Board Members
Board members whose terms are up: Rance Fawbush, Janice Clevenger, Phillip Addison, Russell McGee, and Ben Aldred.
The five above listed Board members were all nominated, as were Bill Goveia and David Nosko. All nominations were accepted by the nominees. A vote by ballot resulted in Rance, Phil, Russ, Ben and Bill being elected to the Board.
A Review of Our 20th Season
We opened the season with “Sleeping Beauty”, which ran with the curtain-raiser “The Emperor’s Daughters”. Dinner theater at St. Patrick’s Day was “The Babbling Banshee, or: The Roaring Lore of the Irish Lion”. Then in March and April we had the Directors’ Symposium XI, which included “The Duck Variations”, “Ethel’s Dinner Party”, “Talking in the Dark” and “Roman Bath”. (Of these, all except “The Duck Variations” were locally written.)
In June we produced a Marx Brothers take on “Twelfth Night” for our first Shakespeare in the Park show of the season. Dinner theater in June and July was “Alice in Wonderland”, at the Lion and in Spencer. September brought more dinner theater in the form of “Oliver Crumb and the Key to Atlantis”, again at the Lion and in Spencer. Also in September, we produced our second Shakespeare in the Park show, “Pericles, Prince of Tyre”.
Continuing our trend of trying things that don’t get done very often, in October we tried “Hadrian the Seventh”, a show Rance has been wanting to do since 1969. (This was the second attempt at this show, the previous one having been cancelled due to lack of a cast.) Following that, we continued the dinner theater series with “Dracula” at the Lion and the Hilltop. This was a presentation of Bram Stoker’s original script which will also be running at the BPP in early 2007. Finally, at Christmas we wrapped up the season with one more dinner theater show, “A Christmas Carol”, which is becoming a popular annual tradition.
2006 was a busy year for us. In addition to producing no less than ten shows, we also obtained our very first sizable grant in 2006, for the dinner theater series, and pursuing new venues.
Looking Forward to Our 21st Season
Dinner theater continues in February and early March with “Social Circles”, a new play by Ben Aldred. It will run at Max’s Place in Bloomington and the Hilltop in Spencer. After that comes Directors’ Symposium XII, produced by David Nosko. There will be five short plays in the Symposium this year. Auditions will be happening soon. We’re still working on finalizing the rest of our dinner theater season, but Shakespeare in the Park has been set. The first show, in June, will be “Antony and Cleopatra”, and the September show will be “Romeo and Juliet”.
