Annual Membership Meeting 2006
Opening
Frank presented an overview of our group: who we are, what we do, where we perform, the fact that we are committed to giving everyone a chance regardless of their resume or background.
A Review of Our 19th Season
(As presented by the directors of the shows, where possible, or other involved parties.)
Sasha Sings Dinah
“It went.”
Directors’ Symposium X
The Symposium was well-received this year, to the point that some nights we had to turn people away. The show featured the introduction of our first improv troupe, “And… Blackout”, led by Ben Aldred, which is currently on hiatus. Also included were “The Beau of Bath”, directed by Janice Clevenger; “Sorry, Wrong Number”, directed by Robert Wagner; and Russell McGee’s modern adaptation of “Lysistrata”.
Julius Caesar
Caesar was our first Shakespeare in the Park in 2005, directed by Phil Addison. Despite a rain-out one night, it went fairly well.
A Twist of Treason
Julian Livingston thanked MCCT for inviting him to do Twist and reported that he is working on another musical production if we are interested. He was particularly pleased with the performance of Rachael Himsel, who played the maid.
Merry Wives of Windsor
Our second Shakespeare in the Park for 2005 was an anniversary production, being ten years after our previous production of the same play. Director Frank Buczolich said that this had been his first time directing a role which he had previously played (Falstaff), and that presented a challenge. He was very pleased with his cast. We had several members of the previous cast in the audience, who tended to wander backstage after the show and compare notes with their counterparts.
Frankenstein
Frankenstein, adapted and directed by Russell McGee, was our first show at the Irish Lion and our first show in Spencer. Russell chose to do a new adaptation because he did not feel that most existing adaptations stayed close enough to the original novel. The show went over very well and we were quite well-received in both venues. This show allowed us to establish a relationship with the Lion, which is free performance space.
A Christmas Carol
Russell McGee also adapted and directed A Christmas Carol, which was performed at the Irish Lion and also went very well. There was a performance planned in Spencer, but that had to be cancelled due to weather. The show also gave rise to a night of caroling (which in turn led to more publicity for us when people asked who the carolers were). The Irish Lion has expressed an interest in making this show an annual tradition in Bloomington.

Webmaster’s Report
We had 133,490 hits in 2005, which is about half again as many as we had in 2004. This is an average of about 11,000 hits per month, with the highest being November (13,462) and the lowest being September (7,972).
Looking Forward to Our 20th Season
Our next production is Sleeping Beauty, directed by Janice Clevenger. It will be performed with a curtain-raiser called “The Emperor’s Daughters” at the Waldron and in Spencer. All shows will be matinees.
The Directors’ Symposium X is being produced by Tim Johnson. Tim has lined up four selections this year: “Duck Variations” by David Mamet, to be co-directed by Rance Fawbush and Frank Buczolich; an as-yet-untitled play written and directed by Phil Addison; “Talking in the Dark” by Chad Eagleton, directed by Jim Hettmer (our first repeat selection); and “Roman Bath” by Russell McGee, directed by David Michel.
Our first Shakespeare in the Park will be Twelfth Night, directed by Ben Aldred. Ben plans to use a Marx Brothers treatment. Lighting will be virtually non-existent for this and all future Shakespeare in the Park shows due to the time zone change; we may move the shows back to 7pm from 8pm to help ensure that we don’t have to light the last halfhour.
Our second Shakespeare in the Park will be Pericles, directed by Janice Clevenger. It will coincide with anything we decide to do to celebrate our 20th birthday, as September 12 is the twentieth anniversary of our first opening night. Janice envisions this play as a soap opera, almost comic-book-like.In the fall we hope to present Hadrian VII, a dark comedy which we have tried to put up before but could not cast. This time, director Rance Fawbush is filling key roles ahead of time in order to hopefully ensure a full cast.
We also have two more shows scheduled at the Irish Lion this season: Dracula, to be performed around Halloween, and the second annual performance of A Christmas Carol.
Election of Board Members
Board members whose terms are up: Frank Buczolich, Tim Johnson, Susan Anderson. One remaining open Board seat.
Sara nominated Tim; Frank seconded.
Phil nominated Frank; Janice seconded.
Russ nominated Roy; Susan seconded.
Rance nominated Susan; Russ seconded.
All nominations were accepted by the nominees. Since the number of nominees was equal to the number of open seats, the consensus as expressed by a show of hands was that they were all elected.
Meeting Adjourned
Tim moves to close the meeting, Phil seconds, ayes unanimous.
