Webmaster’s Report
April and May were good months, with 17,623 and 17,630 hits respectively.
BAAC Grant
Jen reports that overall we did well at BAAC’s public review of grants, but a decent bit of that can be attributed to the fact that we were first time applicants and were being given a break because of it. Apparently BAAC stepped on some of the groups who have been doing this for a while rather hard, and we should be aware that in the future we may not be as lucky. They really liked the fact that we were reaching out to underdeveloped/underserved areas (such as Spencer) and that we are sort of a “grassroots” organization. The two points that they felt we need to work on are our budget and timeline, though they can accept the fact that we rarely have something called a budget and that our timeline is not detailed enough (i.e. when publicity will go out, when shows will definitely be, etc.).
In conjunction with the grant work, Russ went out and polled the audience (103 people total) of the Saturday night showing of Twelfth Night to find out how they heard of the show. Russ presented his findings in pie chart form, with the majority of people finding out about the show via word of mouth. The pie chart is on record with the Secretary. Russ also presented a possible press release schedule which is designed to allow the Publicist enough time to get the various media outlets what they need in time. Frank did mention that something we need to do, though, is identify all the media outlets that we will try to get information to, and what specific information they need.
Twelfth Night
Though Ben had some issues that he hasn’t had with a production before (such as having to “fire” someone on Tuesday of tech week for lack of attendance), the production itself seems to be a success. There was a medium-to-negative review in the HT, but basically no one who was polled agreed with it. Attendance at all the shows was good, with several people coming back to see it again.Ben did note, though, that one of the difficult problems they had dealt with publicity. Due to the recent time change, several places listed the wrong time and there were people showing up late because of it. Parks and Rec has admitted their error in this and Frank reported that they did try to fix it, but it could be seen as too little too late.
On a side note, a person from Kentucky who came to the show has asked if he could by a copy of the poster. It was decided that this might cross some lines that we shouldn’t cross, but that it would be ok to go ahead and give him one and simply charge for postage only.
Alice
Rehearsals are going well. Phil is attempting to secure a place to hold rehearsals; right now they are using a room in the theater building, but like Ballentine when a room hasn’t been reserved the actual spot within the theater building can fluctuate. Jim would prefer to not use Ballentine Hall, but at this point it may be unavoidable. Russ also reports that we will not be able to use the Spencer Public Library for one of our performances, so we will need to track down a location in Spencer to perform (due to the grant we will require one).
Pericles
Janice has tracked down some of her needs for set and costumes, but still needs more. Auditions will be held on the 5th and 6th of July from 6-9, and the actual shows will be at 7 p.m.
Upcoming/New Business
The Beggar’s Opera
Hal Kibbey has brought forth The Beggar’s Opera, a “socialist musical” that he has adapted for standard theater. Hal would like this play to be considered for our lineup (possibly this season or next), and while he would like to be involved as possibly a director, he remarked that he knows his limitations and would like to have assistance in the non-verbal aspects of directing. After providing a background for the play and discussing the major roles, Hal agreed to send a copy of the script to Rance who will distribute it to the rest of the board. The board agreed to read/review the play for discussion at the next meeting. A copy of the script can be obtained from the Secretary.
Extremities
Rhianna is still very interested in doing this play with MCCT, but she needs for us to pick where and when the play will be performed because she cannot order any more than a sample script until the date and location has been set. The only limitation that we need to consider is that this show isn’t family oriented. Rhino’s was presented as a possibility.
4th Street Fair
The 4th Street Fair will be Saturday the 2nd through Monday the 4th this year.
Oliver
Russ has been working with Sara Angharad on this and she should have a script by the end of the moth. Cameron Butler has already been cast in the title role.
Hadrian
Due to his trip to Germany, Rance hasn’t worked much on Hadrian in the past month, but he says he will work on it more in the coming months.
Fenced in Area at the Park
We basically need to clean up stuff from the park. The shed is full and stuff is overflowing into the City’s area, and they have strongly asked us to remove our stuff so that they can work. Some people will be getting together this week to take care of it.
Storage Considerations
Russ brought up the possibility of using some storage space behind Lowe’s (same as what the Wonderlab is doing) which could be cheaper than what we are currently using right now, but this brought up considerations about the metal stairs we use at the park (which belong to the owners of our current storage solution). The issue was tabled for now.
Meeting Adjourned
Tim moved to close the meeting, Phil seconds, ayes unanimous.
