Old/Current Business
Webmaster’s Report
In January we had a record month on the Website with 14,768 hits. This is up about 6,000 hits from January 2005.
Sleeping Beauty
The show has not had rehearsals yet, but is coming along well. Janice is concerned about getting assistance for loading/unloading the set. Costumes are coming along well. One cast member (the prince) is still missing but Janice and Jim have some leads. Posters will be done as of Thursday after the board meeting. Jim gave Russ the press packet, so Russ will be sending out information soon.
Babbling Banshee
Banshee has not been cast yet, but will only need two people, and Roy is possibly interested. Time will be somewhat short on this production.
Director’s Symposium XI
We have a contract now with the Waldron and the Waldron is not requiring any money until after the first weekend of production. There was a possibility of selling out the entire performance on April 7 to a show choir group from Ohio, but we have not heard back from them yet. Tim will be meeting with the directors after the board meeting to discuss auditions. Also, Jim Hettmer has agreed to direct “Talking in the Dark”, which will be our first-ever reprise in the Directors’ Forum series. Chad Eagleton has agreed to grant us rights to do another performance of “Talking” royalty-free as long as he can have a free ticket to the show.
Parks and Recreation/Shakespeare in the Park
We have signed the contract for Shakespeare in the Park this year, and assume that Parks has too, but we have not seen the signed contract yet. Parks asked that we insure ourselves, which would be a rather large expense, but this turned out to be a mistake as it was not specified in the contract. However, it seems that this might be a requirement in the future, so it would be prudent of us to look into an in-kind sponsorship or some similar arrangement to insure future shows, perhaps with the May Agency.
Fundraising/Promotions
Allen passed along through Phil that we would have to advertise for a replacement for him, and be sure to indicate that it’s a non-paying position. Russell volunteered to continue taking care of press releases and such (though not fundraising) until a replacement can be found.
Upcoming/New Business
Alternate Sources of Posters
The Spencer Evening World has only agreed to donate five shows’ worth of posters per year, so if we are going to do more shows than that in a year, we need to find an alternate source of posters for some of them. The Evening World will charge us $350-400 to be doing two posters at once, for 100 11x17 full-color posters per show. We might be able to get some sponsorship from the Spencer Chamber of Commerce if we are willing to advertise at the bottom of our posters. Tim also has a contact at Kinko’s who might be able to help us out with a discount of some sort.
More Plays at the Lion
Russ suggested Alice in Wonderland for June or July, and a musical based on a children’s book he has been writing for August. He has had people express interest in directing, and the Lion is interested in continuing to do a show every couple of months. Rance motioned to accept these two proposals, Frank seconded, ayes unanimous.
Extremeties
Rhianna Jones and her friend Rhea are interested in producing a play called “Extremeties”. The plot revolves around a young woman who lives in a cabin in the woods with her two roommates. One evening while the roommates are out, a stranger enters the cabin and attempts to rape the young woman. However, she gets the upper hand, ties him up, and begins to torture him. Her roommates return home and must decide who is the victim and who is the criminal in this scenario. They have been given an idea of the information we would need about this play and asked to present their proposal to the board.
Beggar’s Opera
Hal has expressed some interest in having MCCT produce The Beggar’s Opera, possibly as a way to make our presence more known at the Fourth Street Festival. However, there are a number of legal concerns surrounding performances, particularly at an open festival. If he has worked out these legal issues, Hal has been invited to present his proposal to the board.
BAAC Recognition Ceremony
There is going to be a rewards ceremony on February 22 at which we will be recognized for celebrating an anniversary that ends in a 5 or a 0 (20, in our case). However, this is essentially a fundraiser for the BAAC, so seats for the ceremony are $30-$50 each.
Meeting Adjourned
Rance moves to close the meeting, Tim seconds, ayes unanimous.
