Old/Current Business

Christmas Carol

Christmas Carol did really well, pulling in almost $800 of begging. The Hilltop show was standing room only, with reservations completely sold out well in advance. Even on short rehearsal time, Bill did a great job pulling the show together with the help of his assistant directors.

Social Circles

Jen has come on as producer. Dates have been set, opening on the 20th of February; shows will be at the Hilltop in Spencer and at Max’s Place in Bloomington. Rehearsal time will be a little short, but it shouldn’t be a problem. The first night of auditions went well, though as usual, more young men are needed. The script is pretty much finalized.  Everything’s generally going well.

Over the River and Through the Woods

Linda Ostermeier came to talk to us about the proposal Rance had previously brought forward to do “Over the River and Through the Woods”. This is a show that did very well in the area about a year ago and Linda feels would be fun to do and appeal to the community. The set would be pretty simple, costumes would be present-day so they shouldn’t be difficult. Linda isn’t sure about royalties, but they should be similar to Hadrian’s. The show would be performed at the Waldron, probably in October or November. Linda would like for Rance to be the director and herself the assistant director, and she and Rance already have some feelers out for casting. Susan moved to accept the show, Roy seconded, and ayes were unanimous.

The Search for a Promotional Director

Frank is working on a job description. It would include writing press releases, forwarding information to media outlets (including announcing auditions, performances and other events and arranging preview and review coverage), arranging and conducting programs and events (such as fundraisers and outreach), overseeing the creation and distribution of publicity material (such as posters, flyers and programs), pursuing corporate sponsorships, fostering relationships with private donors, maintaining e-mail lists and contact lists, conducting periodic evaluations for the purpose of grant applications, and of course other duties as assigned. Writing and communication are essential skills. Work in public relations, journalism, advertising or communications would be very useful. Experience in print journalism, knowledge of arts and non-profits would be desirable. Familiarity with image editing and web authoring software would be a plus. …And of course all this on a volunteer salary, i.e. nothing (unless we are able to find funding for an intern or some such). This is just a preliminary skeletal draft. Any feedback should be forwarded to Frank.

Symposium XII

The lineup isn’t set yet, although several plays have been proposed. Phil had an idea for posters, which have not been done yet. David Nosko did volunteer to produce the show, so things should get rolling soon. Rent for the Firebay for this show will be $1,116 according to Rance.

Hal’s Plays

Rent for the Firebay for this show will be $1,390 according to Rance.

Dinner Theater 2007

Russ officially proposed Through the Looking Glass in May, Jekyll and Hyde for the Halloween show and a third annual Christmas Carol for dinner theater in 2007. Rance motioned to accept, Ben seconded, and ayes were unanimous.

Annual Meeting

We decided to have the annual meeting on Saturday, January 27, at 6:00pm at the Irish Lion. Russ is going to talk to Dennis and try to get us the front room upstairs. Rance, Janice, Phil, Russ and Ben are up for re-election.

New/Upcoming Business

More Venues

Frank said we might be able to perform at the Cinemat, since they are no longer showing videos there. Productions would have to be very small. Ben suggested shorter shows with multiple shows per night for this venue.

BAAC Awards

The BAAC is holding an Arts Leadership Award event and have asked all organizations with significant anniversaries this year to contact them. Our 100th show (Directors’ Symposium XII) qualifies us.

It’s Grant Time Again

We’re now in the next cycle of the BAAC grant, so if we want to apply for it again we should be working on that. The deadline to submit a letter of intent is February 28.

Meeting Adjourned

Susan moves to close the meeting, Phil seconds, ayes unanimous.
