What is MCCT?
Monroe County Civic Theater is a not-for-profit community theater group. We are dedicated to bringing quality theater to Monroe County and the surrounding area and to providing experience in all aspects of theater production to all interested persons.
Since our first show opened on September 12, 1986, we have presented plays from many centuries; from Greek and Medieval plays to modern times, including Shakespeare, Molière, Racine, Tom Taylor, Gilbert and Sullivan, Checkov, Shaw, Wilde, Ibsen, Coward, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Sondheim and several children’s plays. We have also featured many plays by local playwrights, often directed by the authors.
We have performed at the John Waldron Arts Cetner, the Playwrights’ Project Theater, Harmony School (outdoors and indoors), Karst Farm Park, the Monroe County Public Library Auditorium, the Monroe County Historical Society Museum, Rhino’s, the Irish Lion, and various schools and health care centers in Monroe County, and have recently branched out to perform in Spencer as well.
How is MCCT run?
The Board of Directors carries out the business of the group, which includes making decisions about our production schedule, managing the Civic Theater’s finances and promoting productions, as well as anything else that needs to be done in order to keep the Civic Theater running. The Bylaws require that there be at least three voting members of the Board, but no more than nine. Elections are held at the annual meeting in January, and Board members are elected for two-year terms. Board officers are also elected at the annual meeting. The exception to this would be appointed officers, such as the Webmaster, who are appointed directly by unanimous vote of the Board and have no vote in Board decisions unless they are also elected Board members.
Details about the workings of the Board, as well as descriptions of officer duties, can be found in the Bylaws.
